Terms of Service
Last updated: 9 July 2026
These terms govern your use of Knowbite, a barcode scanner that gives you gluten and lactose safety information about packaged food products. By using Knowbite, you agree to these terms. Knowbite is operated from Georgia. Questions? Email support@knowbite.app.
Not medical advice
Knowbite is an informational tool, not a medical device and not medical advice. The gluten and lactose information we show comes from Open Food Facts, a crowd-sourced public database, and from our own automated interpretation of that data. It can be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. Always check the product label yourself before eating something, especially if a reaction would be serious. If you have celiac disease, a lactose intolerance, or any other medical condition, talk to a doctor or dietitian about your specific situation — don't rely on Knowbite as your only safety check.
Your account
You need an account to get more free scans and to subscribe. You're responsible for keeping access to your account secure. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. Sign-up is passwordless (email-based); if you lose access to your email, contact us for help.
Free scans and subscriptions
Knowbite gives you a limited number of free scans, then offers a paid subscription for unlimited scanning. Subscription payments are processed by Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record — Paddle is the seller for your subscription and handles billing, invoicing, and payment data; Paddle's own terms and privacy policy apply to that part of the relationship. Trial terms, pricing, and renewal terms are shown at checkout before you pay. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; you can cancel any time from your Account page, and you'll keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for. Refunds, where applicable, are handled by Paddle according to their refund policy.
Right of withdrawal (EU/EEA/UK consumers)
If you're a consumer in the EU/EEA or UK, you have a 14-day right to withdraw from your subscription contract without giving a reason, starting from the day you start your trial or subscribe — not from when you're first charged. If you withdraw before ever being charged, nothing happens to you financially. If you continue using Knowbite past the trial and are charged, you may still be within your 14-day window and entitled to a refund unless you've expressly requested immediate performance and acknowledged that doing so ends your withdrawal right once the service has been fully provided — this is presented to you at checkout. To withdraw, cancel from your Account page or email support@knowbite.app; since Paddle is the seller of record, they handle the refund itself.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Knowbite for anything unlawful, or to try to break, overload, or reverse-engineer it.
- Circumvent free-scan limits through automated means, multiple accounts, or similar.
- Submit false "missing product" reports in bad faith.
- Resell or redistribute Knowbite's data or service without our permission.
We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Data accuracy
Product data comes primarily from Open Food Facts, a database anyone can edit. We do our best to interpret it responsibly (for example, treating incomplete listings as "can't verify" rather than guessing), but we can't guarantee it's always accurate or current. Manufacturers also change ingredients without warning. See "Not medical advice" above.
Intellectual property
Knowbite's software, design, and branding are ours. Product data comes from Open Food Facts and is used under its own license terms; we don't claim ownership of that underlying data.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Knowbite is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we're not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including any harm resulting from relying on scan results instead of checking a label yourself or consulting a medical professional. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited (for example, liability for gross negligence or for harm to health where the law doesn't allow that to be excluded).
Termination
You can stop using Knowbite and delete your account at any time from the Account page. We can suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, without affecting any subscription fees already properly charged.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Georgia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If you're a consumer in the EU/EEA or UK, this doesn't take away any mandatory consumer protections you're entitled to under the law of your own country of residence, and you can bring any dispute before the courts of your own country of residence — this Georgia governing-law clause doesn't require you to bring a claim anywhere else.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Knowbite after a change means you accept the updated terms.
